Guest post – reflections from Aayat Alqormozi

Guest post – reflections from Aayat Alqormozi

It was so hard to leave Norway after the enjoyable 22 days. Additionally, it is not easy to choose a day or an event as the best. Everything was on the point. All the events, trips and meetings was extraordinary! All the people from the volunteers to the participants were so friendly and lovely to the extent that make the farewell so hard! The snow was amazing! I love the white because it always reminds me of the peace! I traveled to many places in Norway. I've been to Tromsø, Trondheim, Røros, Oslo and Kristiansand. I built many of unforgettable memories in all of these cities. And I learnt more and more from each and every person that I have met! I heard about many struggles and uprisings that I have never heard before. Actually, that what I was looking for! Meeting many people and listening to their stories and about their countries. They are really inspiring people who filled me with energy and...

Aayats birthday and horseback riding in Tydal

Aayats birthday and horseback riding in Tydal

Hello dear readers! During Aayat’s visit to Trondheim both she and all the volunteers in the Peace Project have had pretty busy schedules so we made sure to have some fun and relaxing breaks! We kicked this off on the second day of the festival with a traditional Norwegian birthday celebration for Aayat. The current and previous Student Peace Prize team and Aayat’s host family were all invited. The celebration had to include the birthday song and cake – of course! In addition to this we added some fun traditional party games such as the “chair game” and “put the heart on the ISFiT-horse”. We all had a great time and the birthday girl was very happy.   The Peace Project and Aayat were so lucky to visit the Patrusli farm in Tydal. It was quite an adventure, both in finding our way there and to have dinner inside a lavvo! Once we arrived at Patrusli we were dressed up in warm suits (which...

Aayat Alqormozi in ISFiT 2017

Hello everyone! ISFiT 2017 has just come to and end, and we in the Peace Project have spent many days together with Aayat Alqormozi in Trondheim. As mentioned in an earlier blog post we invited Aayat back to Norway and ISFiT to support her in spreading her message and share her story about her fight for human rights, democracy and freedom of speech. So in addition to being a regular participant in one of ISFiT’s workshops, she has held several workshops, speeches and presentations. On 12th of February Aayat held a speech at one of ISFiT’s plenary sessions together with the Nobel Peace Prize laureate in 2003, Dr. Shirin Ebadi. The laureates talked about their work for peace, the situation in the Middle East and their personal sacrifice for their work for human rights. Aayat also visited two high schools in Trondheim at 13th of February. She attended their class in “politics and human rights”. She shared her story and talked about the...
