The purpose of the Student Peace Prize fund is twofold: to provide the financial stability needed for the Student Peace Prize to be awarded in the future, and to ensure that the prize money and administrative costs are drawn from a disinterested, apolitical source.
So far the main contributors are the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (UMB), the University of Bergen (UiB), the University of Tromsø (UiTø), the University College of Sogn og Fjordane, the University of Oslo, the Student Socity in Trondheim, the Student Welfare Organisation in Trondheim, and ISFiT.
The fund is conservatively guided by statutes administrated by the ISFiT Foundation in Trondheim. The statutes stipulate that only the yield of the fund may be spent. In the fall of 2010, the ISFiT Foundation decided that the prize money for the Student Peace Prize 2011 was to be the first-ever grant from the fund.
Significant donations are needed, however, for the fund to be able give the Student Peace Prize work financial independence. For the fund to reach its purpose it has to be increased significantly.
